Adolescents and young adults in the 18 to 24 age group often fall outside mainstream addiction treatment yet their needs are just as great. Research documented in the European School Survey Project on Alcohol and other Drugs as well as the Comparison of European Countries and the USA shattered the myth that European teen and young adults do not have a significant problem with alcohol abuse. The level of use constitutes a crisis costing the European Union billions of Euros a year and untold human suffering associated with such abuse.

Given the rise in awareness of the substance-abuse problem in the European Union the need to implement proven best practice guidelines for this population is critical. The rising awareness of this crisis makes targeted intervention directed toward teens and young adults essential. Such efforts would not only begin to address the problem but also expand clinical practice to meet a growing treatment demand.  This conference will help clinicians, educators and public health officials take the initial steps to address this expanding health threat within the European Community.

The first International Conference on alcohol and drug abuse in young people is aimed at those who come into contact with abusers in the 14 to 24 years age group and draws on the wealth of experience available in the USA and for the first time presented in Europe.

The Conference is limited to 25 delegates enabling a high degree of delegate participation both during the workshops and pre and post conference networking.  The topics include:

Adolescent Brain Development – the learning brain

Review of the problems with alcohol and drugs nationally

Impact of alcohol and drugs

Treatment and strategy that has worked

Best practice for adolescent treatments

If you are directly or indirectly involved with the treatment of  adolescents or young adults with alcohol or drug problems this conference offers the opportunity to learn from expert speakers in the field as well as fellow professionals from across Europe.
